It’s something of a pop culture cliché: the coffee table full of remotes. You’ve probably encountered a situation where you or someone you know has found themselves with a glut of the things. Perhaps there’s one for the TV, one for the AV receiver, one for a cable box or a gaming console, and maybe one for a streaming device or a physical media player. Add to that an app on the phone for an audio system or another controller for a lighting solution, and you’ve got upwards of a half-dozen controls to fumble with for the family room alone.
A lot of those remotes aren’t very well made, either. We know intuitively and immediately when a remote is poorly designed and built. It lacks heft. It lacks clarity.
Now imagine all of those interfaces consolidated into a single, intuitive, elegant device — a truly “universal remote.”
Some years ago, Crestron — a company with 50 years of experience creating control systems and devices — set out to create the best remote we could conjure. It had to have the same fit and finish that Crestron products had come to be known for. It had to feel right in the human hand, with the perfect weight and an immediately pleasing ergonomic form. It had to address every detail of a device like this, with, for example, buttons that required pressure that was neither too soft nor too firm — perfectly responsive in a way one would naturally expect.
And it had to provide the user with access to everything in their connected home with ease.
That led us to develop the TSR-310, a remote with a touch screen, and its companion HR-310 (for integrations where a screen isn’t needed or a simpler experience is desired). These remotes were designed to control multiple devices, providing the user with a single remote that’s able to control everything from media to lighting to climate and more. They can call up multiple customizable profiles so that every member of a household can quickly find their favorites.
Because Crestron is committed to constantly refining everything we make, we’ve given our remote controls an update. “We are dedicated to continuous innovation, ensuring our remotes stay ahead of modern design trends, and we’re proud to introduce the latest versions of these two devices,” says Crestron’s Residential Marketing Associate, Georgio Galaris.
