the challenge

This home had automation technology already, but the homeowners were seeking a more comprehensive system that could be personalized to their lifestyle and enhance their lives. The homeowners desired to keep the layout and design of the home intact, so they needed a solution that would unify their smart home and provide the flexibility they sought.

the solution

Once shown Crestron Home® OS, the homeowners fell in love with the simple layout which was intuitive, easy to use, and could be updated over time. DM NVX® AV-over-IP technology was another important piece as it would provide the ability to route content throughout the house synchronously. With the Crestron solutions, Audio Impact was able to retrofit this home to bring in even more capabilities without running excessive wires or having to redo parts of the house.

the technology

The homeowners frequently entertain guests to watch sports, so they wanted to have open spaces that could easily transform into a welcoming environment. The living room opens to allow fresh air into the home and the rooftop deck is another enjoyable option, containing hidden speakers that can provide background music while guests listen to the ocean,

Inside the home, flush in-ceiling speakers and small apertures in the wall allow the subwoofer to remain hidden. DM NVX AV-over-IP technology and the DM NAX® audio-over-IP platform give the homeowners ultimate flexibility for streaming entertainment to any or all rooms while the four cable and Apple TV® digital media extender boxes remain out of sight in a closet. The network creates the ultimate environment for March Madness games or Sunday Night Football so that viewing is matched from room to room, meaning guests can move around and mingle without spoiling the next play. All the speakers are also tied into the system for synchronous listening across the kitchen, living area, backyard patio, and landscape speakers.

For the rest of their home, the family wanted an elegant, effortless solution that would provide easy, whole-home control without having solutions overtly visible in the design of their living spaces. Crestron Home platform enables them to control any room in the house from a simple touch screen or the convenience of a smartphone. Crestron wireless thermostats, dimmers, and keypads were selected for a unified control experience while also providing an installation that would not disrupt the drywall. Lighting, audio, and shading control are all manageable from the handheld remotes so that users can remain relaxed and seated as the room adjusts around them.

Crestron battery-powered shades utilize an elegant, minimal fascia that matches the design of the home. Sheer shades were paired with the solution to protect the flooring while delivering privacy in the main areas. The solution reduces the amount of heat entering the home with the vast amounts of natural lights, helping to keep HVAC costs low. Blackout curtains were selected in the bedrooms for a comfortable sleeping environment even as the sun begins to peek through.

"DM NVX technology really gave us the flexibility to keep the equipment hidden in one room, but still give our clients access to multiple content sources throughout the home."
